🎲 Ludo: Strategy & Fun Against the AI

The board game classic from 1907 — now digital against 3 AI opponents

Few board games are as beloved worldwide as Ludo (known in Germany as "Mensch ärgere dich nicht"). At LottoAnalyzer you get the classic digitally — with 3 AI opponents, right in your browser, no setup or cleanup required. A fun break between statistics sessions where dice luck and tactics both matter.

📜 A classic with a long history

📖 Did you know?

The German original was created back in 1907/1908 by Munich publisher Josef Friedrich Schmidt, making it one of Germany's oldest still-produced board games. Internationally the same core mechanic is known as Ludo or, in Spanish-speaking countries, Parchís — players everywhere roll the same dice and face the same frustrations!

🎯 How to play at LottoAnalyzer

You play as Red against three computer-controlled opponents:

You (Red) AI Blue AI Green AI Yellow

Players take turns rolling the dice and moving pieces across the board — whoever gets all 4 pieces safely home first wins.

📋 The rules in detail

RuleExplanation
Getting outOnly a roll of 6 lets a piece leave home — and grants another roll
Move obligationAfter coming out, that piece must move off the start square first (unless it was the last one at home)
Start square blockedIf your own start square is occupied and pieces remain at home, it must be cleared first — if that's impossible, another piece may move
Safe squaresStart squares are NOT safe, but star squares are
CapturingLanding on an opponent's square sends their piece back home
Own piecesCannot be captured — not even by yourself
WinningAll 4 of your target squares must be occupied

🧠 Best strategy tips

1. Priority: get pieces out

Without a 6, every piece stays home. As soon as you roll one, in most cases you should bring a new piece into play — more pieces on the board means more tactical options.

2. Aim for star squares

Since only star squares are truly safe, try to move exposed pieces onto one as quickly as possible — especially when an AI opponent is within striking distance.

3. Capture over advancing

If you can choose between a normal move and capturing an opponent's piece, capturing is almost always the better option — it sends the opponent all the way back home.

⚠️ Watch the home stretch:

You can't be captured on the final stretch — but you need the exact roll to fill all 4 target squares. Plan your last moves carefully!

🎲 Dice luck vs. tactics

Like any dice game, chance plays a major role — but deciding which piece to move when you have multiple options is pure tactics. That mix of luck and strategy is exactly why Ludo has stayed popular for over a century.

📋 Summary: Ludo in 4 points

  1. Only a 6 gets pieces out of home — and earns another roll
  2. Star squares are safe, start squares are not
  3. Capturing opponent pieces is usually the strongest move
  4. All 4 pieces home = win against 3 AI opponents
